Lavender at Villandry

In Provence in the south of France, lavender is a cash crop;  at Château Villlandry it's all about the beautiful color.  This château was constructed in the 16th century, but it is mostly famous (in my opinion) for its fabulous gardens...probably the largest and most extravagant  in the Loire valley.  You can be sure that this is not the last post you'll see from this incredible place.

  1. Glad to hear that you will post more photos from here, did you shoot a panorama so that you got the whole building, a bit of sky and the lavender? That is what I would do, I think I would still be there shooting!

  2. I didn't shoot a panorama of the whole building but I did a number of them in the gardens. One frame is just not enough to get some of the grand vistas of the gardens. Stay tuned.

  3. Loved the lavender fields there - tried planting some here (several times) but it wouldn't live.

    1. That's too bad. I wouldn't think the heat there would be a problem, so maybe it's the soil. I know there are variations (hybrids) on them in France so maybe you'll eventually find some that can make it. I think they're worth the effort. (Having said that, I don't have any as I have no place to plant them.)
