St Antoine tower

This is the Saint Antoine tower in the town of Loches as seen from the château.  It is a bell tower that dates back to the 16th century.  It is 52 meters high (about 170 feet) and offers a wonderful view of the town when it is occasionally open (alas, I have never been up into it).

  1. Hélas... :-)

It's been 25 years since I have seen this sight, it's beautiful, isn't it?

    1. You clearly need to come back to the Loire Valley and recover all those lost memories.

  2. I've never been up the top either. In fact, I didn't even know that you could until recently. (And btw, isn't posting photos of Loches cheating? :-)

    1. Not more than I want to see it ! It will be tricky as I think it's only open on very special occasions.

  4. They certainly knew how to build a bell tower in the 16th century Stuart.. makes me wonder if our Bell Tower, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swan_Bells will survive even a fraction of that time!

    1. It is indeed (the tower). It really stands out among the crowd... I wonder what the locals thought when it was first built. Must have really been overwhelming.
