the ginko tree

I have always loved ginkos for their leaf shape and their brilliant golden color in the fall.  Here's a tree that looks out over the Loire and appears to be very content with that.

Unfortunately, I was not able to capture it in full sun during its peak.

  1. I have heard of these trees but we don't have them here.
It contrasts well with the building in the second shot.

    1. As I said at the end, I wish I could have gotten a shot in the full sun (like the individual leaves in the frirst shot). The contrast would have been even greater.

  2. I don't think I've seen many but then I'm not much good at recognising trees. :-( Pretty!

    1. From a distance, they don't really distinguish themselves from others when they're green. But in the fall, they really stand out.

  3. It's a little like the sun itself Stuart, wonderful colour. I do like your first image so much, it has a very Japanese feel to it..Sitting by the bank of the Loire would make me content also :)

    1. You are so right about the Japanese feel. The ginko has been a significant Japanese motif for a very long time. One that appeals to me in a big way.

  5. I love them too. They are always a nice shape and the leaves are lovely. Their only downside is if you have female, with their stinky fruit.
