le château des ducs de Bretagne

Here's another château, this time in Nantes which is downstream on the Loire from Amboise.  It dates back to the 13th century.  Yeah, another one that old !

    1. Quand se termine-t-il ?! But yeah, it's an interesting city... with the château, the cathedrale, the shopping areas, and above all the Jules Verne "factory" !

  2. What an amazing building! Just love the whole effect with the sky and clouds behind, it looks to good to be true. I also like the black and white shot from the other day, so many fabulous bits of architecture.

    1. With this one, I had to stitch two portrait photos together because I couldn't get far enough back to get it in one frame ! An since I was on my bike, I didn't have my wide angle lens.

    2. Ah interesting, i thought it might have been taken on a very wide angle 15mm or so.

  5. It does feel very much like you'd expect a castle to look. It looks inviting!

    1. Well, I can assure you it was not inviting back when it was built ! Today is another story.

  6. Neat bit of 'stitch-work' there Stuart :) appealing in its symmetry also. A fairytale castle for sure. I mean seriously, HOW is it still standing after all those years :)

    1. The thickness of the stone walls of the the châteaux in incredible. Even our modest little house in Amboise has walls about 20 inches thick ! So the walls holding this massive thing up are enormously thicker.

    1. They've done some great work in restoring it to its former glory. A must see if you ever are in Nantes. Of course, it's just one of fifty-some in the Loire valley.
