les vitraux de la chapelle Saint-Hubert

Here is one of several wonderful stained glass windows in the chapel where Leonardo DaVinci is believed to be entombed.  It is also the source of the color on the walls in last Sunday's post.

  1. It might be where tourists are led to believe Leonardo is buried but it seems unlikely that he really is there. It certainly isn't where he was originally buried, which was a chapel that has since been demolished. I think the remains in the grave in Saint Hubert's being Leonardo's has about as much credibility as King Arthur and Guinevere being in the grave at Glastonbury Abbey.

  3. Tres, tres belle Stuart.. these church windows are such a wonderful link to the past.. I wonder how often they need to be restored? or do they even need to be restored?

  4. The windows were created after World War II. They were made by Max Ingrand (1908-1969). By investigating this, I found that he replaced stained glass windows in the nearby Saint-Florentin and château Chenonceau. He was also one of the artists who worked on windows in Washington Cathedral in D.C.
