deep in the woods

On a bike ride several weeks ago, I passed through sections of the forest of Amboise.  You may remember one of the entrances that I posted earlier. Well, pedaling deep into another section I came upon this mostly wooden structure in the area where there are two "twin" lakes.  There is no indication as to what is its purpose, but it seems more like a barn than a house.  In any case, I found the rough wooden facade to be unusual and interesting.

  1. Wow--what a discovery...this image is giving me some ideas for free motion stitching on my sewing machine. It also reminds me a bit of Aitre St. Maclou in Rouen--the charnel house used during the Plague.

  5. My Amboisien friend Patrick Bodden posted the following comment on Facebook that I want to also keep here on this blog:
" that's a fascinating and evocative little structure alright, stuart. gérard raveleau -- a mason who helped us get a start with rebuilding the house -- took me to see it in 2006. gérard told me it was a shelter for hunters. he knew that forest well, as his father was a logger and gerard grew up exploring the woods. tragically, gérard became ill the following year and died. by then we had become good friends. i think of him often, as the house reflects so much of our working together... in terms of what can be seen, but most especially, in terms of what we experienced together and what we shared. your photo is such a reminder of that time and of a very special man."
