the morning portrait

In the States, birds similar to this are chickadees.  This one posed for just a few moments on our neighbors' wall before disappearing into the morning mist.  With limited light and without my telephoto lens handy, the resolution of this photo is not very high and thus the "soft focus" appearance.  Anyway, I think it resulted in a somewhat painterly portrait.

  1. Yes, les mésanges. You know what they're called in English. A friend once told me he was under the impression that they always traveled in pairs. ;)

  2. It is a Talgoxe. But the English name is more fun. Great tit.

  3. Your photo has the appearance of a very soft chalk pastel drawing--better that you didn't have that telephoto in hand! I'm hoping for some mist here, although the birds are not usually that cooperative as yours was. I have some "red leaf" pics for you that I will send, Stuart!

  4. Really? I never thought of mésanges charbonnières being like chickadees! You do know that there used to be so many of them, but now we hardly ever see blue tits anymore and even these black ones tend to become rarer. Makes me freak out.

    1. I'm sorry to hear that. These guys show up on a regular basis here across the street so maybe that phenomenon must vary by region. Having said that, I do worry about the current trend towards the impact on the birds and all species.
