the windmill like you've never seen

I don't know the purpose of this windmill at Château Bourdaisière, although I could speculate that it drives a water pump for the nearby gardens.  But even if it has no other purpose, it definitely entertains and amazes.  To me it looks like a design out of a Jules Verne novel.

    1. I only found out today about steampunk while I was googling-around about Jules Verne. But yeah, I'd say this falls right into that genre.

  5. It is unusual, and yes, it does seem steampunk-ish.

  6. They are very steampunk. This is an éolienne Bollée, still in working order and as you guessed, for pumping water. It is a wind turbine, manufactured by the Bollée foundry in Le Mans. A wonderful organisation called Archiving Industry has an inventory of them. Indre et Loire is a real hotspot for them and where most of the surviving ones are.
