the town house

This house inside the fortified walls of the old town of Loches has many characteristics of houses in this area.  That would include the use of stone in the building and surrounding walls, slate roof, shuttered windows, cascading flowers, multiple chimneys, and ironwork.  (Also is typical, the pigeon on the roof!)

  1. And it has a buttress to shore it up on the left. Lovely well, isn't it.

    1. Yes, that's right. Pretty unusual for a house to have a buttress. But, hey, why not? Better than having the wall collapse on you.

    1. Well, it depends. If the house has been modernized, it can be nice and toasty. The walls are often about two feet thick, so if one can install double pained windows, insulate the attic, upgrade the heating system, etc. then it can be pretty energy efficient.
