a wonderful door

This door to the courtyard at château Gaillard looks to me like a modern construction.  It is in absolutely flawless condition.  The carving on the bottom panel is beautifully done.  The iron work also looks new.  I cannot image what this little jewel would cost to have made.  Unfortunately, the photo does not really do it justice.

  1. Very nice. There is a blacksmith in l'Ile Bouchard who is an expert in old door furniture. He probably made the iron fittings. Don't know who the wood carver might be though.

love your pictures! They make me imagine Amboise to be a fascinating place. I'm so glad you have time to wander and take pictures and thus "bring us there!"

  3. It's heartening to know that there are still dedicated craftsmen out there.

  4. I'd love a door like that, but I'm afraid it wouldn't work on my more modern house. I wonder what I'll do with all the euros I just saved...
