the bumper car
For me, this is what we call a "blast from the past"... a memory lost until jogged by an unexpected reminder. In the States, we call this amusement ride "bumper cars" where the idea is to intentionally drive your car into someone else's. But the bumpers prevent any damage... except for the whiplash incurred by the occupants. I haven't seen these in a long time although I'm sure they exist at lots of State and County fairs around the USA. Anyway, I was pleased to see that these kids in Amboise can still have fun with this temporary travelling amusement show even when it's not on a tiny glass screen.

DeleteOh yes these auto tamponneuses are part of 'foires' in France. I stopped loving this fun when I hit my head against this metallic protection and came home with swollen lips . But nevertheless I enjoyed it.

Some ways are of learning are more painful than others !
DeleteIt is refreshing to know that some kids enjoy old-time amusements. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly right. And fortunately I didn't see any them texting while on the ride !
DeleteI can see that!!! hi, hi, hi...
DeleteI've seen those occasionally at fall fairs, that sort of thing, but I think that's about the only place left for them. Even theme parks go for something bigger.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm betting the bumper car factory is shut down, so when the current ones wear out, they'll be history.
Deleteyep, they are still here. we went on them at the salem fair last summer...so much fun!
ReplyDeleteHow's your neck. I suspect these rides are sponsored by the chiropractors.
DeleteI used to love these things - though I would get upset when someone bumped into me. I just like driving them around!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with that. Except I seem to recall one didn't have much control over them even when not crashing into another.
DeleteIt's against the law to text and drive over here Stuart... even in bumper cars :))
ReplyDeleteI should hope so. Not good either place.
