As usual, to see this panorama better, you'll need to click on it. The Loire is a little higher than usual lately but not so high as to submerge the bike trail (on the left) as I have seen it do so only a few times.
I hope it endures. It's predecessor was blown up by the Amboisians in 1940 to try to keep the advancing German army from crossing the Loire here. Unfortunately, it just slowed them down a day.
The softness comes from the cloudy skies. It was about 3pm... of course the sun went down 5:19pm that day. Most folks don't realize how far north France is because of the mild climate. So in January, the sun stays pretty low all day.
It is a wonderful place to ride along here as you don't have to share the road with the cars and trucks. And of course the views of the Loire can't be beat.
Cars and trucks drive on this?? It looks like a well maintained foot/bike path to me. I can see that the river is higher and I like the way the grassy bits protrude into the meandering water.
What I was trying to say is that on this section of the bike path you don't have to compete with the cars and trucks. Those grassy bits are usually dry land... but not lately !
That isn't too bad. It looks good like that.
ReplyDeleteYeah, most folks wouldn't have any idea that this higher than usual. I like the fact that water birds can now be seen closer up.
DeleteThe arch lookbs both graceful and enduring.

DeleteI love rivers and la Loire is the last "untamed"river in Europe. Exciting and wild.
ReplyDeleteTess
As long as it doesn't get as wild as it was in 1856 when the town was last flooded !
DeleteThat reminds me of the cycle path to Saint Dyé when it rains! I like the way the shot is framed. It makes you feel you're there!
ReplyDeleteNow, "untamed" is a very good word for the Loire. I shall remember that, Tess.
I haven't (yet) cycled that part of the path but I'm looking forward to doing so sometime. Doesn't "untamed" also refer to the local residents !?
DeleteTres joli image Stuart, lovely soft light .. early evening ?
