spherical shrubs

These carefully trimmed shrubs overlook the château at Amboise from a hill behind it.  And this is just a fraction of them !  I don't know how they manage to get them so nearly perfectly spherical.  On this somewhat misty January day, the colors were less uniformly green as they are in summer. On another day, I'll show you what they look like in the snow !

  1. They do make appealing shapes!

  2. Snow? When did you get snow???

I love these. There are a few in Versailles too and although I'm not a huge fan of jardins à la française, I've always been fond of these spheres!

    1. I've placed an order for snow, but it's not yet delivered. The spheres are kinda mesmerizing.

  4. They are beautifully maintained. The gardeners who clip these develop a real sculptor's eye.

  7. I have a neighbour who does topiary, but I haven't seen any spheres on his lawn. These are perfect. Almost alien like.

    1. Well that would be an interesting explanation for them.
