tall grasses - part 1

You may have noticed that I can't publish enough photos with blue skies lately.  We have been very lucky this January to have a number of really wonderful ones.  Anyway, I spent more time than I want to admit trying to identify these grasses that I found near the Loire.  The best I can tell this is called (among other things) maiden grass (miscanthus sinensis).  Before my Googling of this, I would have thought it was pampas grass, which is similar, but I think different.  Anyway, stay tuned for part 2 on that topic.  Any experts may please chime in !  Whatever it is, I liked the way it fluttered in the breeze on this beautiful day.

  1. I appreciate that the blue sky is a super sight for you at this time Stuart, but I can't tell you how much I'd like to look out to a grey, rainy day :). Your plants do look like bullrushes to me, will check back in a while to see if anyone comes up with an answer :)

    1. You want a grey, rainy day? That can be arranged (on ADP, that is). Anyway, I had to google "bullrush" as I don't know that term... what I saw was what we call "cat tails" in the US. Anyway, the game continues.

  2. This could have been a scene in Terrence Malick's movie Badlands ! What a beautiful shot. The grasses no idea . May be there is a visitor with botanical knowledge !

    1. I'm gonna have to see that movie in order to understand your comment ! I'm surprised I didn't see it when it came out as I am a fan of both Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek. I did look at the trailer on YouTube, though, but that didn't help. Anyway, thanks for prodding my curiosity, Tess !

  3. It looks so much like a summer shot, you know, one when you'd be lying on a blanket after a picnic!

    1. That is certainly the perspective. These grasses were on the side of the levee and I crouched down to be shooting almost straight up. But it was still a bit too chilly to be lying on a blanket !
