City Daily Photo theme day for April - "triangles"

This fish should have paid more attention to the sign.

Poisson d'Avril tout le monde !  Happy April first !

For an explanation of these expressions, you can look here.  And for you non-Europeans, the sign is the international road sign for Danger!  Since I am studying now to get my French driver's license, these triangular signs are seared into my consciousness. See how the other City Daily Photo bloggers interpreted the theme for this month here.

The fish in the photo is enormous, at least 4 feet / 1.2 meters in length.  I believe it to be a type of catfish (probably a Wels catfish in English, Silure glane in French).  A fisherman caught it on the island just in front of the town of Amboise.

  2. Great theme day photo Stuart! Most French people call the triangular signs without the exclamation mark "balise" which actually means beacon (at sea) or road marker but is specifically used for the triangular Give Way sign. Good luck with your licence!

    1. I'm glad you enjoyed it, Tess. I debated a long time whether to post this or not. I really try to post nice photos, and while this one is not, I did hope it would produce some smiles.

    1. Well it would have been a filling dinner anyway! I read that when they get this size that they're not really good for eating.

    1. Thanks. I was groping here as I couldn't really find a good photo with a triangle in it. And unfortunately there are no pyramids in Amboise.

  6. M Catfish looks a little bemused Stuart, as if he's thinking 'what just happened' :) hope all goes well with the driving test... I would fail straight away, not only because of the language difficulties but the fact that they drive on the wrong side of the road coukd be tricky :)

    1. I think he was not amused by being dragged out his home up onto dry land. And, hey, we drive on the right (meaning correct) side of the road here ! I'm learning the driving vocabulary so I'm not too worried about taking the test in French. What I am worried about is how the tests are notoriously tricky. Stay tuned.

  8. It is a Wels catfish indeed. A small one actually, they can grow up to 12 feet. Yep, be more careful next time, little fishie!

    1. Yeah, it is sad to see it like this as I have no idea what the fisherman will do with him. It's not really edible.

    1. Thanks. I hope it's amusing as the photo itself is not terribly interesting... but the best I could do under the "rules" !

  13. Oh now that's a good one. Get the cornmeal Momma, we're going to have a catfish fry!

  14. These silure are non-native invasive aliens that eat everything in the river. The more that are caught and disposed of the better.

    1. I read an article online that says these things can eat cormorants (among all the other things). That's amazing.

  15. That is one huge catfish! Stuart, I spent the day taping fish onto the backs of the unsuspecting: 7 and 8 year-olds in my daughter's class, my daughter (the teacher), my husband (three times so far!). I even took paper fish for each of the children and a printed page about "poisson d'Avril" - I think that there will be many parents and siblings with April fish on their backs tonight!

Love your combination of the triangle and the first day of April... truly made me smile!
