La patinoire

The temporary outdoor skating rink is in full swing in Amboise.  It's a small rink that is really for the kids but I can't help going over when it first opens in the morning and I have it all to myself... for maybe 30 minutes.  On this day, there was a cloudless sky and glorious sunlight and the kids were loving it.

  1. Looks like fun! Is it free? Do they rent skates?

    1. Skating is 4€ including skate rental. (Only 2€ if you have your own skates.)

  2. That's pure fun. How I understand you that you tried the skating rink when opening. I would have done the same one year ago. A stunning blue sky and happy people.

    1. The kids are having a blast now that it's their vacation time. It's so warm and sunny here today that the young men were skating in T-shirts. Ah, youth.

    1. Yes, the kids are loving it. This afternoon it was pretty full as the school vacation has started.

  5. How clever of you to rise early and get there first!

  6. Many of our neighbourhood parks have these rinks set up through the winter for use... and we've even got one at our city hall. This shot reminds me of them.

    1. There's a fantastic one in front of the Hotel de Ville in Paris now. It's much bigger of course... and they actually have a Zamboni !

  7. It does look fun Stuart. Can you believe I've never skated on ice, so deprived :) BUT in the past I have roller skated.. a lot! I can just picture you on your solo skating spree :)

    1. I suppose ice skating is not something that comes naturally to your part of the world. I tried inline roller skates once and they seemed to me to be a lot like ice skating. And, you'll have to picture me on ice, 'cause I won't be posting any !

  8. I find it odd that you have to pay to use the rink. Here they are all free.
Although, I did want to skate in Central Park &/or Rockefeller Center and you have to pay there, too. (and I needed rentals, thinking sharp blades might not have been allowed on the plane!)

    1. The temporary rink in front of city hall in Paris is free... if you have your own skates. Other than that, I think one always pays for skating here. I just wish there were more, and bigger, rinks.
