the house on rue Joyeuse

This old house on rue Joyeuse has one of the more unusual facades in town.  It looks to me as if wooden beams have been covered with slate.  And then there's the contrast between the lower and upper floors.  It looks like two different houses were cut in half and re-assembled with floors from both.    Anyway, wouldn't it be great to live on a street named Joyeuse (joyful) ?

  1. That is really unusual Stuart - slate over timber. I wonder when it dates from. I wonder whether it was decorative or designed to prevent the wood from rotting. And I agree. I'd love to live on a street called Joyeuse!

    1. Yeah, I don't know but I would guess it's more of a decorative thing.

  2. I don't think I've ever seen one like this, perhaps because the house itself is joyeux? :-)

    1. I think it does look pretty happy sitting there catching rays in the sun.
