blown away, twice

 

In recent months I would look forward to seeing the growth of these fungi during my daily walks around the Ile d'Or.  The biggest were over a foot (30 cm) wide.  They just blew me away with their numbers and size on the same tree.  Well, that came to a crashing end this weekend as high winds blew down the tree and all its sidekicks with it. It was sad to see.

The tops of the vendors' trucks of the Sunday marché are just visible behind the levee that protects Amboise from flooding by the Loire.  The post title is an etymologist's playground.  The English word March is the 3rd month of the year.  Uncapitalized, it means to walk in a military manner.  The French word marché is market in English.  It also derives from the verb marcher (pronounced the same) that means to walk in English.  Don't get me started on the word levee.

... or maybe an outside straight.  In any case, the early morning light was on these plane trees was a winner.

This is a favorite stretch along my usual running route.  It's not only easy on the feet (like an old cinder track) but also easy on the eyes.

This vaulted parking area is where the Friday and Sunday markets are held in Amboise.  Of course, this is just a fraction of the total area.  The Sunday market is one of the largest in France and today it's filled with locals and tourists on a day when the heat wave has receded a bit.

Last Sunday, the just rising sun bathed the plane trees in this wonderful pinkish-red glow.  The tops of the market's stalls can be seen behind the levee.

It's the peak of the autumn seasonal colors this week.  By next week, it'll be streets of gold.

Spring is very slowly starting to make its presence in Amboise.  Finally.

These trees behind the Amboise annual outdoor ice skating rink were lit in many colors... but one color at a time.

It'll be awhile before this bike path is again filled with cycle tourists that will arrive in spring.  This snowy day I had it all to myself.

About a week ago these plane trees were about at their "peak" (as in this shot).  Now, the leaves are falling rapidly and will soon be only a memory.
