it must be 10 am

While this looks to be a giant sundial, it's actually the pagoda in Amboise... as seen from the top.  Here is a more traditional view of it.

the pagoda from from the forest

I recently discovered a path through the forest of Amboise that is accessible from the bike path I also recently discovered.  The bonus is that this path passes nearby the pagoda at Chanteloup.

the pagoda up close

Here's an up close and personal photo of the pagoda at Chanteloup.  You can find other views (such as this one) by searching on the keyword pagoda on the right.

la pagode - a last look before spring

Here is another angle of the pagoda in Amboise... that's it at the end of the road.  Even though the sun was out on this day in March, there was practically no green or any other color.  So I went for the black and white treatment again.  Don't worry, there are more colorful spring colors to come.

la pagode

Here's another view of the pagoda (at the no longer existent château de Chanteloup) that I managed to find on a recent bike ride.  This was taken from outside the park that now hosts the pagoda (in fact this is a farmer's field).  Here is the view from inside of the park.

view from the pagoda at Chantaloup

If you would like to see the pagoda itself (and read a snippet of its history), take a look here.  In today's photo, I found the view straight down on these curves is as interesting as the view straight out.  Maybe I'll post the latter another day.  Anyway, the brown is a graveled area around the base of the pagoda and the green is the reflecting pool.

Calendar Series Introduction - June at the Pagoda

This pagoda and the pool in front of it are about all that remains of the château at Chanteloup.  Built in 1775 the pagoda is still structurally sound enough that tourists are permitted to climb the stairs to the top.  It is not for the faint of heart however.  Le Pagode de Chanteloup is on the outskirts of Amboise and is a nice park for families to spend their Sunday afternoons, climbing the pagoda, picnicking, rowing around in the boats, and playing with a variety of old-fashioned and hands-on games for kids.
