a recurring theme

Fog is definitely a recurring theme in my neighborhood since we are right next to the Loire River.  Of course it's also a recurring theme on this blog, and this view of the empty market place especially.

No, not yet

Alas this shot from five years ago is a reminder of how infrequently it snows here.  There are a few hints in the forecast that there could be some this week but it seems to me that the ground is just not cold enough to allow it to accumulate.  I'll never give up hope though.

BTW, this view is one of my favorites in Amboise.  I've taken it in almost every season and weather conditions  you can think of.  For example, here it is in spring.

Sunday market

We just had a four day weekend in France as a result of a holiday on Thursday.  As a result the regular Sunday market was slammed with locals and tourists.

la place du marché en automne

Here's the same market place as Tuesday's post, but without all those merchants and shoppers and fog, on a beautiful fall day.  Happy Thanksgiving to all.

four arches

These arched doorways are on an old building next to the Friday and Sunday market places.  On this day, the early morning sun provided some nice shadows and textures.

brouillard sur la place du marché

Market place.  Fog.   Everyone who follows this blog should know the drill by now.

le batiment sur la place du marché

This old building is located in the big parking lot where the Friday and Sunday markets are held.  I don't know what was its original use.  Now it seems to be just used for storage of maintenance equipment.  It's been recently cleaned up on the outside though... new roof and graffiti removed (at least for the moment).  Anyway, it looked timeless on this foggy December day.

Many thanks to my friend Anne who helped me get the title grammatically correct today !

le marché en novembre

This parking lot is the site of the Friday and Sunday markets (les marchés) in Amboise.  The Sunday market is the largest in the region and draws not only tourists but also the local residents throughout the area.  I have an ongoing project to take a photo here from the same vantage point at different times of the year and in different weather conditions.

la place du marché au printemps

This is going to be a recurring theme here.  The large paved area where the Friday and Sunday markets are held continues to fascinate me with its rows of plane trees.  The mood changes with each lighting situation and each season.  Here is the spring view when the leaves are just making their appearance after a long and gloomy winter.

night scenes series - place du marché

Here is the market place long after everyone has gone home.  This was taken from the same point of view as my post of 4 February.

Calendar Series Introduction - March marché

Here's a scene from the Sunday market.  The bird vendor has every imaginable type of chicken, rooster, goose, and other birds I can't even recognize.  It's great fun for the kids, as well as, well, all concerned.  (OK so maybe not so much for the birds.)

Calendar Series Introduction - February Fog

While snow is unusual to Amboise, the fog is not.  Being on the Loire leads to lots of it.  This photo is where the Friday and Sunday marchés are held.  The Sunday market is the biggest in the area and attracts thousands.  I'll post a photo of the market in action soon.  The thin green line is about the only thing that betrays that this is not a black and white photo.
