antique toys

This little shop in Amboise has an interesting display of antique baby toys in its front window.  It really is a reminder of simpler times.

  1. Love this.

I sometimes wonder if times were really simpler and end up believing that they probably weren't...

    1. Well, at least the toys. Politically, things are as complicated as ever.

  2. I kept my dolls (which would now be antiques and prettier than these ones) for my daughter but ended up giving them away as she didn't show the slightest interest in them! I wonder how many takers they'd have.

    1. All you have to do is browse around or ebay. Or not. Maybe better not to know since they're gone.

  3. I am too young to have had such beautiful old toys. I had no barbie dolls too. My childhood was filled with outdoor games. Biking, swimming, climbing and hiding in big trees . I think only a few families could afford to offer such toys.

    1. That sounds a lot like my childhood... just throw in playing (American) football. I grew up in a rather modest home and so were my toys. But I didn't find that out until I grew up !

    1. I'd be curious to know who buys toys and like this now and what they do with them.

  5. Our family are all into antiques and we do buy some of these old toys for our new baby. We'll have to see how she responds to them. So far so good, but it is us adults who get the biggest kick out of them.
(and by 'our', I don't mean mine - she's my brother's grandchild and only 1y/o))

    1. Yes it would be interesting to see whether she's more interested in the antique toys than the modern ones.
