it won't be long

With all the warm and sunny weather we've had for the last week, the arrival of the first leaves on the grape vines can't be too far away.  This little building sits in the middle of an enormous vineyard.  I can only guess it provides storage and perhaps a warm respite for the workers in cold weather.

  1. Nice shot! The cabanes in the vineyards around us are little more than storage sheds these days, long abandoned since the advent of cars and tractors that make it easy for vineyard workers to go home for lunch. That's my theory, anyway. ;)

    1. It's a good theory as Susan agrees with you !

  2. Walt is quite right about the vine huts (mostly called logis des vignes here, but with dozens of colloquial terms for them). They are legally protected from being actively demolished, but most of them are falling down from neglect.

    1. In fact, there was a second hut nearby that was indeed falling apart... the roof was completely gone and the walls were crumbling. Quite in contrast with the one in the photo.

  3. This little building seems to be still in a good condition. The roof and the walls are solid. And for the vineyards let us hope for une bonne cuvée 2014 ! Do you know that near the Namibian desert is produced a very good wine the Namib Red ? I am too young to be a connaisseur but I love wine and follow my personal feeling if I find it tasty or not and then the old rule no headache is always a good sign for quality . For the moment unfortunately no wine at all..cause drugs and wine olala ! I wish you a nice sunday.

    1. Yes, I'm hoping for a good harvest this year. We're off to a strange start (exceptionally warm winter), so we'll see how the year unfolds. And, no I was not aware a Namibian wine... and what a surprise to hear it's near the desert. Anyway, rest assured that there will still be lots of wine waiting for you to celebrate at the end of your current journey !

    1. Of course my B&W treatment made it even more bleak! I should go back in August, and it will have a very different look and feel.

  7. It looks like a sturdy little shelter Stuart, would certainly keep the cold wind out :)

    1. And with a fire going in the fireplace, it would be tough to leave on a cold, windy day.
