le clocher

This photo of the bell tower was taken in late November while the mums were still in bloom and hanging from the windows.  The tower straddles the rue Nationale which is the main pedestrian shopping street.  (Pay no attention to the space alien on the right.  Just another tourist.)

  1. I had to look twice at the mention of an alien!

    It is a lovely tower.

    1. Yes, the clock tower is one of the primary icons of Amboise. The alien, not so much.

  2. I'd never noticed before that the clock has such a weird 'tacked on as an after thought' look.

    1. It is indeed very flat with the surface of the tower. I don't know the history to know if the clock is a recent addition to the bell tower... but it does kinda look like it.

  3. I had to look twice too! Is it just me or is this a frenchissime sight? (I don't mean the alien!)

    1. Wow, now that's a word I don't know in French. I read that -issime is an old form for a superlative, but even with that I still don't know how to translate your question ! Please educate me !

    2. I merely meant that this looks very French to me!

Btw, I think I made that word up...

    3. Oh I'd say it's French all right ! On dit "way French" en anglais.

  4. It is hard to escape those aliens...
I am still always appreciative of public clocks, but only if they actually tell the right time.
