staircase at Château de Tours

Here's the third installment on my outing to Tours to a photo exhibition at the Château de Tours.  This stairway connects the two floors that hosted the exhibition.

The exhibition I visited is a retrospective of Vivien Maiers.  Only recently has her lifelong and enormous collection of photos (over 100,000) been discovered.  I am happy to report that I was blown away by the photos and I highly recommend Googling her to see some of her vast work.  As a head start, here's a link to the Wikipedia page.  I believe history will put her on par with all of the great street photographers.

  1. Well staircases not for me..lol. Oh you are the lucky one in visiting a Vivien Maier exhibition. I saw an exhibition in march 2011 in Hamburg Germany. She was one of the greatest street phohographer in the world ! Thanks for asking about my recovery .Very very slow, two other operations to come, sigh, but I decided to be strong and struggle and that's what I'm doing. Have a nice sunny ??? sunday.

    1. Well maybe not for now (the staircases)... but hopefully in the future ! I'm glad you enjoyed the Maier exhibit in Hamburg. I was really moved by this one.
It was indeed a beautiful sunny day today. Feels more like spring than winter. Hopefully I got some new photos that you may be seeing very soon! Anyway, continue with your optimism in the face of the upcoming challenges. It's the perfect strategy.

    1. I'm sure we're going to be hearing a lot more about her as only a fraction of her photos have released (many are still undeveloped in their film canisters).

  3. Her work was quite the thing in France this past year, wasn't it?

    Athos, Porthos, Aramis and... d'Artagnan...

    1. This is the only exhibition in France that I know of this year (that means I looked at the list of exhibitions on Wikipedia!). She has had others however in the last three years. In any case, she does appear to be creating quite the buzz worldwide. A documentary about her is scheduled to debut in the spring.

(And my earlier question to you was actually regarding the 4th gentleman in the old photo at the movie theater. As is often the case, my jokes fall flat ! )

    2. There were lots of magazine articles about her sometime last year... I didn't know her work until then!

Lol, I'm sorry. I tend to be very literal...

    1. I saw in a short documentary about her at the exhibit, that showed she saw a major exhibition of French photographers at MoMA in NY... including Bresson, Brasai, etc. It sure appears it had a big impact on her work. I searched but could not find a list of future exhibitions, but if it does come to Perth, you won't want to miss it.

Ms Maier's work is astounding. and really, much of it is still undeveloped?! I have to look at mine as quickly as possibly. Not much patience here ;)

    1. It appears she had some quirks. But not much money, so those two facts may explain why she never developed so much film. But I'm with you. I am so spoiled by digital I could never go back to film.
