Carnaval des écoles !

Every March the local schools celebrate Carnival by conducting a costumed parade through the streets of Amboise, complete with adult bands and dancing girls. I had a difficult time deciding which of the 130 photos I took this morning to use.  So I had to cheat a little and combine four that catch the flavor of the event.  As you can see, it's not just the students that are into it.

  1. Some carnival are famous in France. For instance: Nice, Dunkerque and Granville (not far from Cherbourg). During the 4 day Granville carnival, the town is closed for these days! You cannot go into town or drive out unless you have a serious reason.
Have you got famous carnivals in US?

  2. I've just been looking back through the pictures that have been posted, AND the comments left: hello to Anne and Michelle! (Anne, how do you decide whether to make your comments in French or English? I notice you do both)

Azay-le-Rideau looks like a place we should go see, next time in Amboise.....

Stuart, I enjoy so much getting the daily photograph!

  3. The Carnival in Paris just keeps getting bigger every year. It's a tad different from the one in Amboise ! It's more of a Venice-style event (elaborate period costumes and face masks)...not so much for the kids.
I suppose what would be called Carnival elsewhere is called Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Definitely not for the kids.

Hi Susan. Thanks for the comment.
