la longère

This style of farmhouse is very common here.  As you can see, they are narrow and long, generally one room wide with a hallway connecting all of the rooms.

  1. And with their front door directly on the street. The brick and stone doorway is also typical. This one looks a little worse for wear!

    1. Yes, that's right. I've seen some renovated ones and they can be quite modern on the inside and cool on the outside.

  2. Goodness the door straight onto the front street could be a bit tricky oui! So much character, would love to see the decor inside.

    1. I'm guessing that when this was built, the street in front was a little dirt road.

  4. No doubt it's been there for a very long time. It predates any paved road, for certain.

  5. There was a show out of the UK on renovating old (though usually abandoned) farmhouses in continental Europe. It was fascinating what could be done to make them modern and charming while retaining the old world character.

  6. C'est à Saint Ouen Les Vignes. Mon père et ses parents habitaient cette maison dans les années 50-60.
