Here's another point of interest on the big bike ride I took last week. The little town of Menars hosts the
château de Menars which was once owned by Madame Pompadour in the 18th century. We didn't have time to visit it, but I will be back another day for sure. (The above is a little church "next door" to the château and close to the Loire and bike path.)
Never tire of these pictures, such simple style and elegance even in a village street
ReplyDeleteWe've been into that little chapel though I can't for the life of me remember what's inside! Château de Menars is one of the highlights of our bike ride along the Loire between Blois and Saint Dyé on the other side of the river. There is a special "viewing point". This is a shot in autumn: http://www.bloisdailyphoto.com/2013/10/chateau-de-menars-in-autumn-chateau-de-menars-en-automne/.
ReplyDeleteBike rides offer so many spectacular views, and this is another of them !
ReplyDeleteThe pathway is inviting, and that chapel seems to beckon me.
ReplyDeleteOne day Stuart, one day I'm coming to see for myself :)
ReplyDeleteIt's delightful. I don't remember ever visiting Menars. Madame de Pompadour keeps popping up in my life at the moment. How strange...
ReplyDeleteCan you visit the château? I recently saw a program that Stéphane Bern did on La Pompadour and he showed some of the interiors. It's an impressive place, for sure.
ReplyDeleteIn response to the previous question, I researched on the web and it appears that the château is not open the public. That's too bad as I was looking forward to going back to see it.
