Here's another château, this time in Nantes which is downstream on the Loire from Amboise. It dates back to the 13th century. Yeah, another one that old !
Quand se termine-t-il ?! But yeah, it's an interesting city... with the château, the cathedrale, the shopping areas, and above all the Jules Verne "factory" !
What an amazing building! Just love the whole effect with the sky and clouds behind, it looks to good to be true. I also like the black and white shot from the other day, so many fabulous bits of architecture.
With this one, I had to stitch two portrait photos together because I couldn't get far enough back to get it in one frame ! An since I was on my bike, I didn't have my wide angle lens.
Neat bit of 'stitch-work' there Stuart :) appealing in its symmetry also. A fairytale castle for sure. I mean seriously, HOW is it still standing after all those years :)
The thickness of the stone walls of the the châteaux in incredible. Even our modest little house in Amboise has walls about 20 inches thick ! So the walls holding this massive thing up are enormously thicker.
They've done some great work in restoring it to its former glory. A must see if you ever are in Nantes. Of course, it's just one of fifty-some in the Loire valley.
1532, la fin de la Bretagne ducale... 2014 la réforme territoriale... Lol! I love Nantes, did you enjoy it?

DeleteAh interesting, i thought it might have been taken on a very wide angle 15mm or so.
DeleteGoodness, they've spruced it up a lot since I used to live there!
ReplyDeleteI didn't see it "before" but I think it's in great shape now. Ya better go back and inspect it !
DeleteLooks like a real classic castle. Nicely photographed.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed a classic. And in such good contition now. Thanks.
DeleteIt does feel very much like you'd expect a castle to look. It looks inviting!
ReplyDeleteWell, I can assure you it was not inviting back when it was built ! Today is another story.

ReplyDeleteIt is new to me, I haven't seen it before...

DeleteWish I could go back in time to witness this being built. It looks tricky.
ReplyDeleteAnd this is only a part of it. It is so much bigger than what you see here.
DeleteWhere have I been... so many missed posts with great photos.
ReplyDeleteBusy publishing your own interesting photos, I'd say !
